LOCAL Aboriginal children will get the chance to wet a line at a special Department of Primary Industries (DPI) fishing workshop run in partnership with the Shoalhaven Local Area Command (LAC) and PCYC.
The Cops and Koori Kids Fishing Workshop will be staged during the next school holidays at Titania Park, Greenwell Point.
The workshop, which is open to Aboriginal children aged eight to 14 years, will be staged on Wednesday, October 1 from 9.30am to 2pm.
During the workshop, kids will engage with Fishcare volunteers, DPI staff, police officers and Volunteers in Policing to learn about NSW fishing rules, fishing safety, conservation of fish and their habitats, knot tying, line rigging, baiting and casting techniques and retrieval of fish.
Each child will receive a rod, reel and show bag to take home.
To take part in the Cops and Koori Kids Fishing Workshop parental consent is required and forms are available from Nowra Police Station.
Enrolments close Friday, August 31.
