The fund offers students and apprentices financial support to help them achieve their dreams.
This year will be the third year for the fund.
Members of the SEF committee raise funds throughout the year and collect donations from local businesses and residents.
SEF chairwoman Linda Marquis said she was proud to be a part of something with the sole purpose of raising money for young people who want to further their education or training but can’t afford to.
“Our sponsor list is growing, which is wonderful because without that support we cannot exist.
“This year we have opened the fund up to students who want to pursue a trade or other qualification apart from those who hope to go to university.
“The career pursuits we support include apprenticeships, traineeships, cadetships, degrees, diplomas and certificate level studies at TAFE or private colleges and entry level employment,” she said.
Founding member Sophie Ray encouraged students in the Shoalhaven having financial difficulty to apply for the fund.
She said a lot of time and effort went into processing the applicants and working out who should receive money.
“It is a long process but it is fantastic. We always come away feeling inspired by the applicants,” she said.
The successful applicants would be notified early next year.
During the launch on Monday SEF patron Shoalhaven Mayor Joanna Gash and Gilmore MP Ann Sudmalis donated money to kick off this year’s fund-raising.
A number of other fund-raising events are planned throughout the year.
