Kinross’ second and third XVs clashed with Crossley Heath’s first and second XVs respectively as part of the English school’s three-week tour of New South Wales and Queensland.
The 36-man touring party arrived in Orange on Tuesday after playing four games in the sunshine state and will depart for Ulladulla today after a draw and a loss respectively.
Kinross’ second XV, currently sitting third on the Independent Schools Association (ISA) table, fought out a tough 12-all battle with Crossley Heath’s top side, while the hosts won the lower division game 12-5.
“They were good performances,” Kinross master in charge of rugby Richard Roach said.
“It’s just so tough for us to get matches like these being so far from our competition, and it was great for the boys to get a run.
“But this whole thing is just fantastic. It’s the third time they have come to Australia but the first time they’ve been to Orange.”
Crossley Heath teacher in charge of rugby Neil Hale heaped praise on Kinross as a host, but conceded the tour had not been as successful as originally hoped on the field.
“It isn’t really about results though in the end,” Hale said.
“This is a development squad, they have another year in the firsts. It’s as much about the experience for them as anything, so we’ve come to Orange for the first time rather than just doing the stereotypical city thing.
“The standard out here is about where we thought it would be, it’s great experience on and off the field.”
Kinross will continue its foray into international rugby tomorrow, playing a trial against the visiting Sekei High School from Japan.
Kinross’ second XV takes on Sekei’s top side to replace its scheduled ISA bye.
