Producer Brian Rosen has brought forward plans for his innovative release of the Australian film Around The Block, with special event cinema screenings next month followed by a fast DVD and Video On Demand release in July. Director Sarah Spillane’s drama has Christina Ricci as a high school teacher during the Redfern riots. The screenings, which feature a Q&A with Spillane, Hunter Page-Lochard, Matt Nable and other cast members, include Sydney’s Cremorne Orpheum on June 16 and the Randwick Ritz on June 23. ”We’re getting very positive feedback,” Rosen says of the release strategy. But he concedes the market remains very tough for Australian films outside the three or four, such as The Railway Man, that break through. ”We’re lucky for any film now to do more than $500,000 at the box office,” he says. “Tracks did $2.3 million but you would have liked to think it would have done $5 million or $6 million. For the smaller movies like Around The Block, doing half a million is good, which is a sad reflection on where we were five or six years ago.” Campion reveals hot new project

As she prepares to chair the jury at the Cannes Film Festival, Jane Campion is close to confirming her next film. Having triumphantly switched to television for Top Of the Lake, she has told The Guardian she is nearing a deal to direct an adaptation of Rachel Kushner’s novel The Flamethrowers, about a young female artist who moves to New York in 1975.Moorhouse stitches up more talent

Director Jocelyn Moorhouse (Proof, How to Make An American Quilt) is assembling an impressive cast for The Dressmaker, a stylish drama set in the 1950s that will start filming in October. Joining the already announced Kate Winslet, who plays a talented haute couture dressmaker who returns from Europe to the country town she fled as a child, and Judy Davis, who is her sick mother, is Liam Hemsworth. He will play ”a laid-back, genuine charmer” in the adaptation of a novel by Rosalie Ham.
